Eventually I found hot to balance out the fundamental channel’s arm a 1 galloon bucket filed with led shot and Super Melquiades power supply do a good contra-mass.
I did not do a lot of listening but the very initial listing that I did are clear...
Thanks for the lecture on material I've been closely acquainted with for thirty years. But please don't try to dodge the issue, viz., that you erroneously said AC plug polarity has "nothing to do with The Wood Effect". The...

Hey Boys, Remember even if you use a modern "pancake" compression driver, you still have no control over the flare rate the manufacturer used within the phasing plug. And most of the time they are not willing to tell you, or they don't even know...
Our bass driver has a 12v field coil motor, it developes just over 20 kilogauss flux density using a low carbon steel pole piece. The exit diameter is 4 inches at the moment. The diaphragm is 6 inches in diameter and made of a...
Well, it was not really a surprise to us that the horn without the phase plug was dissapointing. Without the plug we had a horn that was a bit too short, had too large front cavity and less compression than we desired.
It...

...Or plug all but the desired LF exit path? This might not have the same compression ratio a stock though. Well, I am still learning about how phase plugs operate.Neil...

Yes, I have recognized those “flatted-ended” Edgarhorn Horns that I will be spending this weekend to correct. By "plugless" I meant that the phase plug will be removed in my fundamental channels as they would not be necessary in there and should prov...

Hi romy,Have you had a look at the website recently (site address above in marco's mail), they have very detailed discussion of midbass horn with photos of phase-plug etc. unfortunately it may be only in french ...R Weissman...

Hello,This is my first post to this site, which I have been absorbing for over a year.A horn project that I have been considering would include either a 1 inch or 1.5 inch throat compression driver into a Tractrix profile horn of which I have not yet...

You're using a phase plug? Why? To try to get it to go higher? If using parallel drivers, and doubling Sd, it may be necessary to change throat area to not damage drivers... The third design type sounds quite differe...
I can't find a/the post(s) where you describe the advantages of using a 4 inch throat. Stereo-lab makes both 4 and 8 inch throat 140Hz horns but I don't think they could make an 8 to 4 inch adapter... [...

I believe you use the laser to find out at what frequencies there are resonances and where they are at so youcan make the phase plug accordingly but like I said I know about as much as those lasers as I saw in the Tad brochure. A machinist told me on...
It was good to finally meet you at CES at the Cogent Room. I guess that you really found Steve and Rich's drivers pretty interesting (you initially wanted to buy a pair of the midrange drivers, remember?)
Hi, Jonathan....

I couldn't figure out where to put this but this thread came to mind. ( a post which i loved by the way)tube phase plug from Decware. http://www.decware.com/newsite/images/dfr6%20006.jpg I actually used to appreciate this guy.. partly because he didn...

This is the project that I been thinking to undertake for years. I have motioned about in multiple times that Vitavox’s S2 lower region is very lucrative but unfortunately not exactly useable if the driver run all the way up, unless you are wiling to...

Thank you Clark for your comment.Unfortunately, I think that you missed the point. It is possible that a power cord can change things. The description „better“ is a moving target however. Let us take for example a „full range“ driver in a backloaded ...

I was slowly looking for a compression driver that would go in my Fundamental Chanel down to 200Hz. The YL Acoustic 550N attracted my attention. Then I realized that it is the narrow throat type of the drivers, aka WE555, not exactly that I would...

wow.thanks for comments.La Grande Castine will not be as expensive as Cessaro Gamma.i am sorry but i cannot answer to all questions, for several reasons you can understand.we have tested many drivers since the early prototype of La Grande Castine. BM...

Romy, you mention the passive radiator and then you link to a normal 5" poly-cone driver. I guess I don't get what you mean.I can't remember hearing a "passive radiator" speaker that was worth the dynamite to blow it up. Those I have heard made reg...

Interestsing... I thought the BD horns sounded noticably better than any other exhibit. It was not without problems, but was suprisingly good. The Festrex 5" was good in a limited range-- but get it out of that frequency range and or dyna...
So Jeffery, do you want one or two? Finally, just today I picked up a chuck that will allow me to easily finish some drivers. They are 9 inches in dia. and I've really been struggling with undersi...
I couldn't unscrew the top threaded piece myself. Perhaps I was turning it the wrong way?! Any guidance you could give on dismantling the driver would be appreciated.
Chris,

I was exploring the park of lower MF drivers and I think I have found one that I will pursue. However, while I will be waiting for my drivers to arrive I ask myself a question what would happen if put a few gaskets under my S2/S2 diaphragms? If I mov...

The previous response I posted, 'Partial Disclosure For The Sake Of Clarity', assumes you are referring to the second prototype of my proposed design. (The base design is the same, with the exception that it uses one driver instead of two.)[quo...

You see, even Romy, who openly detests the Lowther, is right there to steer Lowther lovers to cogent information he has turned up during his eternal foraging for useful hi-fi trivia. Thanks, Romy! The chart on the juice bottle looks VERY interesting!&n...

If there is any info in this or another post about why the S2 is so much better than the Altec 288c please direct me. If not what makes the S2 drivers so different than a 288C? (I am talking about 288'cs that the 24 ohm diaphragms have been...

-Background- Enspired by Jeffery Jacksons system as displayed @ VSAC, I'm building a five-way horn system. Tapped horn for up to ~80Hz; w/ Eminence driver 65Hz Tractrix from ~80Hz to ~400Hz w/ fane 8"; 250Hz LeCleach from ~400Hz to ~2...

symbiotic diaphragms were never used in the 19's. this may be part of the "bad sound" that this guy was experiencing.they used the 802-8g driver with ultra light epoxy and aluminum diaphragm that allowed hf response up to 22,000 cycles when pairedwi...

user="jackydai"]My basic point is: the flare rate has to be coherent
right from the entrance of phase plugs. In this sense, not even Bruce and Sam
did it right, I’m afraid to say. In many cases the driver and the horn are
designed by diffe...
